Marriott International in Australia has recently deployed Hewlett-Packard's high-performance infrastructure to delivery premium in-room technology services to its clients.
As part of its "Spirit to Serve" philosophy, Marriott recognizes that guests want the latest technology offerings, such as high-speed wireless internet access and IPTV, available in their guest rooms. To deliver these services and prepare for future services not yet imagined, Marriott has embarked on a significant upgrade of its networking infrastructure.
Marriott selected the HP E Series suite of routers, switches and controllers for this task, based on their high-speed architecture and scalable system design. With remote intelligent management and a lifetime warranty, the HP E Series offers the ideal solution for a distributed network that can cope with large demand peaks during events and holiday seasons.
To provide wireless access for its guests, Marriott will rely on HP E Series wireless multiservice controllers, access points and devices. Access devices, which integrate both wired and wireless connectivity ports in hotel rooms, significantly reduce cabling costs, switch ports and power sourcing equipment.
"We believe these technologies are an important part of our guests' overall experience and, as such, we need a reliable, high-performance network to ensure a smooth running, continuous service – which HP provides," said Andre Baljeu, director, Field Technology, Asia Pacific Region, Regional Information Resources (I.R.) Office, Marriott International.
HP is partnering with leading hotel technology service provider DOCOMO InterTouch to deploy the HP E Series suite of routers and switch products in Marriott hotels in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. The first hotel installation was completed this month. The full deployment is expected to complete in August 2011.
"Delivering the highest level of guest services is critical to the success and competitiveness of hoteliers," said Darren Read, director, Networking – South Pacific, HP. "HP provides a core-to-the-edge networking portfolio to help hotels such as Marriott innovate and deliver enhanced guest services, creating new travel experiences for their guests and differentiation from their competition."

Interesting article - I like the 'Spirit to Serve' attitude. People are now expecting more 'as standard' in hotels, rather than what might have previously been considered a luxury. Hotels need to pay attention to the in-room technology they provide. It is great to see that the Marriott have made a move in the right direction to upgrade their infrastructure - I hope more follow suit!
