In its bid to expand its business internationally, cosmetics firm Shiseido has employed the help of NEC Corporation to support the global deployment and operation of its core business IT system renovation based on SAP ERP 6.0.
Shiseido is promoting expansion of international business, including Europe, China, Asia and the Americas based on its vision of becoming a "Global Player that is representative of Asia with its origins in Japan."
In recent years, it has become crucially important to establish sophisticated management infrastructure to support business process innovation and to reinforce corporate governance in the field of IT. In order to achieve this business objective, Shiseido is globally deploying new SAP® ERP 6.0 based IT systems in its core business areas, including sales, logistics, manufacturing and accounting by 2013.
In order to maximize the effectiveness of these new systems globally, NEC supports Shiseido's information planning organization and business process organization as part of standardizing business processes, including the establishment of globally unified "business process standards," "data standards" and "Key Performance Indicators (KPI)."
As a member of Shiseido's "Standardization Maintenance Team," NEC supports the global evaluation and verification of system alternation requests from overseas affiliates, and coordinates such requests with the relevant organizations and regions.
Furthermore, NEC established a system to classify the level of alternation into global, regional and local through a definition of globally unified rules and operational flow.
NEC continually supports intensive corporate governance for standardization as it becomes a "Communication Hub" within Shiseido for deployment and operation of systems.
In conjunction with the renovation of core business systems, Shiseido is planning to reconstruct regional information systems in order to realize global IT process innovation and strengthen corporate governance, including reallocation of responsibility and authority in each region and consolidation of conventional IT assets.
NEC will also support this reconstruction project by leveraging the know-how obtained through the global execution of NEC's internal management and process innovation for core business systems utilizing SAP ERP, as well as the experience from consulting and operation support services for other global companies.
In the future, as a strategic partner of Shiseido, NEC will continue to make innovative proposals for optimization of both the global IT infrastructure and the measures to reinforce corporate governance of overseas subsidiaries.
