Each BlackBerry device is unique. Whether it is the Pearl, Curve, Storm or Bold, the phone comes equipped with an eight-digit PIN. The PIN, which is the identification device for the phone, can be located under the phone's settings icon in the status section. The PIN has several uses.
- Just like phone numbers, no two PINs are alike. It exists as the birthmark of the phone: the number programmed to the device before purchase.
- In case the phone is damaged, the PIN is the way of identifying the exact model and contract for the phone.
- When emailing, the PIN can be used to send electronic messages to another BlackBerry device. The PIN ensures that the mail will be delivered to the correct address and is a convenient way to speed up the messaging process.
- Through BlackBerry Messenger, users can chat with fellow users. A PIN is needed to add a friend onto the contact list.
- When you want to download new programs to your BlackBerry, such as the BlackBerry Professional Software, the PIN can be entered for a link to be sent directly to the device for download.
